The feast of Our Lady of the Lily - Madonna del Giglio is the most heartfelt of Affile and takes place every year on the first Sunday of August.
The festival was born to remember a miracle that took place in 1759 when an earthquake struck the village of Affile. According to legend, a group of people stopped to pray in front of an image of the Madonna which was found along the mountain paths.
Next to the image were withered lilies which, thanks to prayers, came back to life just as the earth stopped shaking. Since then, this effigy has been known as Our Lady of the Lily - Madonna del Giglio and is celebrated every year with religious festivals and music in the village.
