On August 19th in Anagni the patron saint San Magno is celebrated with a party that is much more than a religious event.
San Magno has an intense bond with the City of the Popes and its history is dedicated to a whole cycle of frescoes in the famous crypt of the Cathedral where his remains are also found.
San Magno in fact came from Trani at the end of the second century and fled to Rome to visit the tomb of the apostles Peter and Paul.
Along the way he stopped at Fondi. When he was found dead by Roman soldiers his body was taken to Ceccano and beheaded on August 19, 251.
The history of the body of San Magno is truly animated and at one point its remains were sold by the Saracens to the inhabitants of Anagni at a very high price in gold.
The Saint then continued to perform miracles even after his death and that is why his cult has always been very felt.
The solemn religious procession runs through the streets of the center of Anagni led by the bishop.
On the day of 19 in Anagni San Magno is also celebrated with a Palio where riders compete on their horses in a juggling competition called the 'Race of the Ring' and which takes place in the streets of the historic center, in Piazza Innocenzo III.
