Arpino. 'FaOne' - Pyre of Saint John

On 23 June, in Arpino is the traditional festival of Saint John of early summer, reminiscent of ancient pagan celebrations related to the sun and to work in the fields.

The feast is celebrated on the square of the Hill Quarter, where a huge pyre of broom shrubs that is lit and burned in the evening.

This pyre is called "favone" hence the name of the holiday: 'FaOne' - Pyre of San Giovanni. People cluster by the fire to consume meals, glasses of wine and music in an atmosphere that seems magical.
