Arpino. Feast of the Assumption

Arpino. Feast of the Assumption

The feast of the Assumption in Arpino begins with a solemn procession that starts in the morning from the Church of Santa Maria of Civita and winds along the streets of the city of Arpino carrying the statue of the Virgin.

This is a wooden sculpture of the eleventh century and dressed in eighteenth century clothes, that stands on top of a monumental "machine" that is carved in wood and gilded. It is carried by eight bearers.

It is one of the most heartfelt celebrations and is accompanied by civil celebrations which end with outdoor performances and fireworks.
