Bagnoregio. Good Friday procession

On night on the evening of Good Friday in Bagnoregio there is Historical-religious reenactment of the Passion of Christ with a costume procession of over 300 people with a procession.

This event began in Civita in the mid 1600s and was then transferred to Bagnoregio due to lack of figures.

The procession is accompanied by sacred music along the way. The most important religious moment is when the catafalque with the Crucifix of 1400 leaves the former cathedral of Civita to go to Bagnoregio escorted by a group of Roman soldiers, accompanied by women and praying men.

According to local legend, the crucifix must return to Civita before midnight on Good Friday, otherwise, according to other stories, to prevent earthquakes if the crucifix remained in Bagnoregio would become property of this town.
