Priverno. Feast of the Madonna Mezzagosto

On the evening of 14th August in Priverno the Feast of the Madonna of Mezzagosto and its procession goes around the town carrying the sacred image of the Madonna that was found in 1143.

Legend says that a farmer found it while ploughing his field with a team of oxen in Mezzagosto area.

At the sight of the image the animals stopped and knelt before the image.

In memory of these animals, every five years the procession is bigger and a chariot drawn by two white oxen carries the sacred image around the town.
