Fiano Romano. Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows

Fiano Romano. Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows

In mid-September in Fiano Romano, Our Lady of Sorrows is remembered with a festival that has been celebrated since 1842 when a wax statue with satin clothes arrived in the church of Santo Stefano.

The statue had been purchased with the offerings of the faithful and was immediately loved in Fiano also because the bishop had granted a 40-day indulgence to all those who went to visit the sacred image.

For many years the festival was organized by a committee made up only of women, the Pious Union of Our Lady of Sorrows, but since 1933 men have been allowed to take part in the organization of the ceremony.

Since 1925, the town's celebrations have been matched by religious services up to the present days when the festival has become a weekend dedicated also to the discovery of the village of Fiano Romano, to tastings and music.

The festivities end on Sunday evening with the procession through the streets of the ancient village and the traditional fireworks.
