Canino. Feast of San Clemente

Canino. Feast of San Clemente

The Feast of San Clemente in Canino, patron saint, is celebrated on the second Sunday of September with solemn religious and civil ceremonies.

The tradition of veneration for San Clemente was lost over the centuries and the first news dates back to the eighteenth century.

Not much is known of the history of this saint whose body was found in a Roman catacomb and the relic arrived in Canino during the papacy of Benedict XIII thanks to the bishop of Acquapendente.

The urn containing the relic, instead, is a gift from Costantino Valentini, direct nephew of Princess Maria Bonaparte and is placed in the Bonaparte chapel.
