Borgo Velino. Feast of San Dionigi

Borgo Velino. Feast of San Dionigi

A special feast joins Borgo Velino with Paris, the celebration of San Dionigi patron of both cities.

San Dionigi (Dionysius or Denis) is a martyr of the III century after Christ, famous for his rejection of pagan religion.

Dionigi as a young man decides to embark on an ecclesiastical career and deepens his studies to become a priest.

At this point in his life he arrives in Paris where he is nominated bishop.

From 245 he began his pilgrimage to Gaul in a great evangelization enterprise that was not approved by the Emperor Diocletian.

Saint Dionysius is brutally martyred in Paris and his body is in the Abbey of Saint Denis, in the suburbs of Paris.

In Borgo Velino this saint is celebrated with solemn religious events.
