The feast of St. Luke the Evangelist, the patron saint of Capena, is celebrated with solemn ceremonies that have been repeated for many centuries.
The first news dates back to 1707 when the General Council of the community received a request to organize a party in honor of this saint.
In 1710 San Luca is declared official patron and his feast is established in October 18 of each year and is organized by the Confraternity of the SS. Sacramento and San Luca.
The ritual of the celebrations requires that a statue of San Luca be entrusted to one of the Capena families for a year and on October 18 the statue is carried in procession through the streets of the town.
The typical dessert of San Luca a Capena is the ‘maritozzo with the must’, which is a typical dessert of the festivals after the harvest in which the must is just obtained from the fermentation of the wine.
San Luca Evangelista is the protector of painters, sculptors, doctors and surgeons.
