Borgo Velino. Feast of Saints Dionysius, Rustici and Eleuterio

A party very much felt that of the patrons of Borgo Velino, the saints Dionigi, Rustici and Eleuterio to whom a splendid little church is dedicated just outside the village, right near the clear river Velino.

The church dates back to the 12th century but was built on a temple dedicated to the goddess of hunting.

San Dionigi was the first bishop of Paris where he was sent by Pope Fabiano in 250 AD.

Rustici and Eleuterio were his companions, a priest and a deacon.

But some scholars suggest that in reality they were not true people but only attributes and qualities that were recognized.

In fact Eleuterio means "free" and also "the god of nature", hence the second attribute of "rustic".
