The feast of Stuzze recalls the so-called Miracle of Saint Blaise - San Biagio which dates back to February 2, 1298 when Fiuggi was called Anticoli Campagna.
During Candlemas (February 2nd), San Biagio made flames appear over the city to warn of the impending attack of the papal troops.
The inhabitants, then lit up the country with bonfires and the soldiers, believing the town already in flames, desisted from their purpose.
A reminder of this every year are bonfires at the accesses to the squares, that burn the 'stuzze', oak branches and trunks, logs, and huts made with broom.
