Soriano nel Cimino. Good Friday "Dead Christ in the coffin"

The re-enactment of the procession and the crucifixion of Christ is one of the deepest religious traditions of Soriano nel Cimino.

The streets are lined by Soriano 'Sacconi', men dressed in a white tunic with a hood, carrying on their shoulders the "Dead Christ in the coffin."

The carriers are preceded by the Cyrenians, i.e. penitents walking wrapped in a red sack, with faces covered, barefoot, chained and heavy crosses on their shoulders.
