Alatri. Historical re-enactment and procession of Good Friday

Every year during the Easter period in Alatri the historical re-enactment and procession of Good Friday in costume of the Passion of Jesus is staged. For this occasion the inhabitants participate in the most ancient event of the city.

More than 500 participants of all ages form the 33 scenes of the procession, completed by the 2 choirs of the Miserere.

The re-enactment dates back to the end of the 18th century and winds through the streets of the historic centre in the light of candles reminding all of the procession of mysteries.

The various living pictures are personified by numerous figures that give the viewer the impression of being truly a participant in an original story more than 2000 years ago.

At the end of the scenes the crucifixion of Jesus and the two thieves are represented with plays of lights and scenic effects.
