Pico. St Roch Procession

On August 16 San Rocco - St Roch is celebrated in Pico in a characteristic procession where the faithful carry the baskets of bread in remembrance of the saint.

San Rocco, in fact, had been hit by the plague and was removed from the hospital as he had too many lamentations caused by the disease.

He found refuge in a cave outside the city waiting for death but was saved by a dog that every day brought him a piece of bread until his recovery.

The saint then dedicated his life to healing plague victims.
