Torvaianica came to the fore in the 1950s when on one of its beaches was found the body of the young Wilma Montesi. The story had a lot of attention because it involved the 'Roma Bene'.
Since then the Romans began to frequent the coast and some have disfigured it with buildings of little architectural or realisable value.
It remains a wooded area with cork trees, elms and oaks. Here again there are dunes with the classic Mediterranean vegetation (ginestra, butchers broom, blackberry bushes and dense vegetation of grasses) and a marshy area with two coastal lakes.
This area is located near the presidential estate of Castelporziano.
