Greccio. The Chapel of St. Francis

Greccio. The Chapel of St. Francis

The chapel of St. Francisin Greccio is located on the summit of the mountain, at an altitude of 1205 m, in one of the most beautiful places in the territory.

In particular clear conditions, you can see the dome of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

According to history, this was the place where St. Francis lived when he decided to settle in Greccio.

The present building was built in 1712 by Pope Clement XI in memory of St Francis: a tiny and poor chapel of one room. In 1889 a small house was built that is used as a refuge by shepherds.

The original church is still intact in its shape and dimensions.
