Velletri. Mount Artemisio

Mount Artemisio is in the Castelli Romani Park and is part of the caldera of the ancient Lazio volcano.

It is rich in forests of chestnut coppice with oak and beech trees on the highest part. You can meet numerous sources and springs and the sources of the Artemisio.

It has always been used for the strategic control of the area and of the ways of communication with Southern Italy.

Settlements have been found dating back to the Iron Age and the Roman Republic. On the top, you can see the remains of a castle destroyed around 1400.
