Terelle. Chestnut forest

The centuries old "monumental" Chestnut forest is one of the glories of Terelle.

The oldest chestnut tree is 800 years old and 12 meters in circumference. The forest is crossed by paths.

There are pits where once the inhabitants drew water and 'ditch Snow', a natural cavity that was filled by the winter snows, then was covered with branches and straw, to provide ice during the hot season.

On the retreat from Casermette you reach the summit of Mount Cairo at 1669 meters above sea level, which overlooks a breathtaking panorama.
