Proceno. Via Francigena

Proceno. Via Francigena

Proceno is a stopping point on the Via Francigena, the route used by the pilgrims from Canterbury arriving at the tomb of St. Peter in Rome. Today this route is again travelled but by international tourists who want to rediscover themselves and tour unpolluted areas.

Proceno is the first village that pilgrims met after crossing the border between Tuscany and the Papal State.

Dante was to give the name of "pilgrimage" to the flow of travellers who crossed the fields of Europe and seeking deep cultural exchanges.
