The cherry crop of Vignola dates back to mid-nineteenth century as shown by mature trees growing in the vineyards.
The two cultures have alternated for a time, but the cherry tree was more durable and suitable for the climate of the area.
After World War II the production increased significantly and the Vignola cherry arrived in all the Italian and foreign markets.
Its economic and cultural importance is evidenced by the numerous awards from fairs, festivals and publications.
In 2005, Celleno Cherry won the first prize of the National Association "Cities of Cherries".
