Just born: Discoverplaces.travel, portal for travellers in search of special experiences

On Monday, February 20 a new website is being launched dedicated to the discovery of small towns and the unique and real experiences of lifestyle and history of the places and their people.

Discoverplaces.travel has in its name its mission, helping travellers to discover special places in which to find something outstanding, to live some unique experiences.

The experience may relate to the discovery of a particular monument, a fresco in a church or an ancient 'carriage' used for processions.

The experience may involve a local food, a wine that embodies the knowledge of traditions, a rediscovery of a rare vegetable grown only in certain places, sampling of wonderful extra virgin olive oils.

The experience may be a traditional ballad dance in a wonderful town square with players who reproduce the rhythms that for centuries have made the bodies of men and women move apparently uncontrollably. Salterello and tarantella enliven the squares and the summer nights of many small towns.

The experience may involve the discovery of a designer, a craftsman or an artist able to create something special for us.

The first tool to help the traveller is a Tourist Guide that has all of the information of each individual town in at least two languages, in this case English and Italian. Most small towns have never had a Tourist Guide for at least two reasons: it was not cost-effective, and the locals were accustomed to their beauty and they did not think that it could be so special to be of interest to travellers.

The first activity of discoverplaces.travel is to create Tourist Guides for each town and generate a collection of Guides for each province that will stimulate the deepening of curiosity and the discovery of the local territories. To do this we asked for involvement by local photographers and amateur photographers who in recent years have tried to promote their own localities.

Photographers are being offered a new stage in which to express their art and we provide biographical notes in two languages. In return we seek publication (non-exclusive) of photography on the portal and in the guides. Over the next few months we will establish photographic exhibitions.

The second form of collaboration by Discoverplaces is with the associations and the small tour operators of each particular place who want to promote their 'common goods', i.e. the artistic and natural beauties of their territories. These groups often are presented only on Facebook and to them we offer web support. Working together we can attract the attention of travellers and tourists on small masterpieces in each of the territories.

The third form of collaboration is in synergy with local organisations and businesses  that want to promote themselves and to attract more attention in the searches by experiential travelers and tourists who want to try something different.

The journey has just begun, and every time we interact with someone new ideas arise and we innovate our forms of communication. Follow us and we will surprise the world together.
