Travel suggestions for women of 50. Can we learn to love ourselves?

I believe that being a woman is one of the most stimulating and rewarding, while tiring experiences of life. We could have been born men and we would have missed the joy of motherhood that instead has been given to us.

How many times have we dreamed of someone taking care of us? And how many times has it really happened?

And after the birth of our children we look forward to years of running, the organization of the day's activity to meet all commitments, to ensure that they grow well with a reassuring guide, that they enjoy and learn.

Then they learn to dress themselves and suddenly we have more free time, they learn to do homework on their own and we feel we can get back to taking care of ourselves a little bit more. Then they go to university, gain independence and we are again the centre of our own life.

So where does one  start a new exciting season of life?

We have to brush up the passions that come back that we had put away but first we have to learn to love ourselves. And what better experience than a trip for discovery of the new beginning.

A journey that can satisfy all the senses for a woman begins with the choice of a beautiful place that welcomes us with love, the same that we give to our family and friends, and that has the small issues that make the difference.

A place where there is a Spa or a wellness centre is even better, a nice massage before relaxing and then regenerating is what is needed to free your mind and body and be ready for the evening.

A dinner with a good wine is even better. If we choose to stay along one of the wine districts in Italy, we can truly satisfy all the senses. In the morning we can go to visit one of the jewel villages that are found in Italy.

The hills of the Langhe do not need any introduction and are a UNESCO heritage, Chianti is now internationally known as Chianti-shire, but also the hills of Prosecco or the Cesanese del Piglio Docg Wine Route with a visit to the Crypt of the Cathedral of Anagni (the Sistine Chapel of Middle Ages) near the ‘palace of the slap of Boniface VIII’ that changed the history of the Western world in the fourteenth century.

You can go anywhere, choose Umbrian wines, those of Pugliesi or Sicilian, the wines of Campania or those of Trentino or Friuli. Perhaps the choice is how many days we take and how much we want to get away from our comfort-zone.

Proust's phrase is always the with us ‘The real voyage of discovery does not consist in seeking new lands, but in having new eyes’

The countryside areas or displays in art centres without too much crowds are perhaps the perfect situations where you can combine Italian history and culture but also include culinary culture of local traditions and well-being. Very cleverly the best operators have created a network to promote themselves with Smartbox and today this is one of the best gifts we can receive.

A veiled message (but not too much) to our children, friends and partners to let us have a travel experience from which we can return ready to face the second ‘season’ of life which, no doubt, can be even more beautiful than the first because now we have the maturity to appreciate it.

Just go to the site and take a surprise. I chose!
