Tarantelliri Festival of Castelliri

Tarantelliri Festival of Castelliri

The Tarantelliri Festival of Castelliri is one of the best-known folk music festivals in the whole of central and southern Italy and is held every August in Castelliri, one of the municipalities of the Liri river valley.

Tarantelliri is a combination of 2 evening concerts in which the first evening is dedicated to Italian popular music, while in the second evening Italian singer-songwriters and authors or Italian folk-rock groups play. The concerts are always exciting and much appreciated.

It seems impossible to stay still to the rhythms of the musicians and young people who animate the evenings in every aspect, flooding the streets of the town with the joy of typical Italian summer festivals, and in particular, Ciociaria.

In past years many of the well-known guests played rearrangements of some of their songs in a popular key or even modifying traditional pieces.

In one past edition, Francesco De Gregori sang some of his songs accompanied by the Popular Orchestra of Ambrogio Sparagna. On that occasion, almost ten thousand people were present throughout the town.

Other well-known names who have played Tarantelliri's stage over the years: Fausto Mesolella, Cristiano De Andrè, Teresa De Sio, Luca Barbarossa, Paola Turci, Nada, Tony Esposito, Cisco (formerly Modena City Ramblers) and Bandabardò. Among the names of the Italian popular scene: Kalascima, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, Giuliano Gabriele Ensemble.
