A trip to Sciacca to taste our roots and the real Italian lifestyle

My wife Josephine and I decided to take most of our immediate family to Sicily two years ago.
There was nine of us. My wife’s father was from Messina and her mother was from Caltabellotta.

We stayed in Messina first for a few days and then in Sciacca for one week. It was only thirty minutes from our cousins in Caltabellotta.
It was one of the most incredible experiences of our lives. First of all, Sciacca is stunning, but I want to share with everyone our experience while staying at Garibaldi Relais.
From the second we arrived, we were treated like family. The place is immaculate. Every morning breakfast was delicious.
We honestly felt as if we were staying with family.
I remember when my daughter, who is an incredible vocalist, sang in the stairwell while we and our hosts enjoyed her beautiful voice.
I remember having dinner with our hosts Angela, Epi, and Mario.
I remember the chef coming out and singing for us.
I remember my son-in-law, Patrick playing guitar at the table and my daughter, Francesca singing.
I remember the gorgeous beach in Sciacca when we lounged by the Mediterranean Sea.
Most of all, I’ll always remember the love and affection we were shown by our hosts.
It truly felt as though we were staying family.
The amazing thing is that to this day, we remain family even though we are almost 5,000 miles apart. If we are ever blessed to go back to Sicily, we are definitely going to stay at the same B&B.
