The Federician Week is dedicated to Frederick II of Swabia, Stupor Mundi

Those who have been to Enna have been able to admire how important the presence of Frederick II was, the man who built one of the castles here that is most difficult to conquer.
In this castle, the parliament of the Swabian Kingdom met twice. Frederick II was cultured, powerful, astute and modern.
He fought the papacy to promote his idea of ​​the world order. Nation states with kings connected in a sort of federation at the top of which was the emperor.

And Frederick II loved Sicily.
It was natural that Sicily always remembers him, and that a week of events and an award in his honour was born in Enna.
The event ended up involving the city, transforming it into a laboratory of talents and cultural exchanges in the name of escape and good time spent with friends.
The events take place in the most characteristic historical sites of Enna: the Torre di Federico (Frederick’s Tower), the Castello di Lombardia (Lombardy Castle), the Porta di Janniscuro (Janniscuru Gate), the medieval quarters and the historic centre. This allows tourists to be surprised by the rich heritage of the city and to be able to enjoy it to the full.
The historical re-enactments, the Palio of medieval games, the tastings of ancient flavors, the joust of the knights and the imposing procession with the meeting between the Castellano and the Emperor Frederick II, reconstruct a scenography of other times and revive traditions, tastes and customs.
The dedication to "Frederick II and the European Dream" is most appropriate.
The emperor, known as Puer Apuliae, Stupor Mundi, Sol Sine Nube, was born in Jesi in 1194 and lived in Sicily, making the island a crossroads of the cultural currents of the Mediterranean.
The Swabian emperor had such free and innovative views as to appear extremely original and unconventional to his contemporaries.
He had sensed that the national states had now become too autonomous for an emperor "alien" to them to easily impose his supremacy. Then he imagined and tried to create something new: a sort of Confederation between national states each led by their own sovereign but united under the leadership of the empire.
For this reason, the European Community considers Frederick II as its real "founder".


The Federician Week is organized by the association "House of Europe", by Cettina Rosso, Maria Renna and Giuseppe Castronovo, with the support of the city of Enna.
