Almost 80% of the activity in world heritage is in Italy and this is why Italy has the best schools of restoration and protection of historical heritage.
Experts from around the world come to study in Italy or Italian professionals are called who understand how to deal with artistic heritage. On this basis an agreement was formed in 2013 involving CNR-ICVBC and WHITRAP (UNESCO) for cultural exchange between Italy and China, involving the Chinese "water towns" and Italian "hill towns".
The CNR-ICVBC is the Institute for Conservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage, based in Florence, which is part of the National Research Council, and is one of the world centres for restoration techniques and the experience it has in treatment of Cultural heritage.
WHITRAP is the World Heritage Institute for Training and Research for the Asia and the Pacific regions is an organization under the UNESCO auspices.
CNR-ICVBC and WHITRAP have teamed up for the second phase of the international project with China and have selected Italian companies that were operating in the area of promotion of cultural heritage, i.e. in promotion especially on the web.
The CNR-ICVBC has selected the best companies in the Lazio choosing www.discoverplaces.travel portal and Altair4 (http://www.altair4.com/).
The portal www.discoverplaces.travel is already known in China for its business of digital storytelling and its joint-founder Claudia Bettiol was involved in the First Digital Culture Festival held in Beijing in 2016. The Discoverplaces site tells stories of culture and history of small towns in Italian and English aimed at attracting experiential travellers and tourists. The group is working both on-line and off-line with the creation of guides initially of the Lazio region in an on-line and printed collection books arranged by province.
Altair4 is a multimedia production company that values the artistic and cultural heritage through the 3D reconstruction of ancient sites. Its products are used both in television and in publishing, and the company collaborates with major operators such as National Geographic, Focus and "Ulysses the Pleasure of Discovery”, in Italy. Altair4 has a long association with the University of Tokyo and the numerous archaeological reconstruction activities carried out in collaboration with national superintendents such as that of Pompeii.
The CNR has also selected the town of Cave as the centre where the second part of the project will be carried out, when Chinese professionals and students will be in Italy in late summer for seminars and 'training' in the field.
Cave has prepared for this challenge with great professionalism and a territorial enhancement program implemented by the GAL Terre di Pregio together with other 10 municipalities of the district (Genazzano, Olevano Romano, San Vito Romano. Capranica Prenestina, Pisoniano, Gerano, Cerreto Laziale, Ciciliano, Sambuci, Saracinisco).
