Giulio della Rocca has always been a wizard with numbers and it was only natural that after university he continued to deepen his studies with a doctorate in Algebras Operator. Certainly Viterbo was not the right place for a young man with these dreams while the whole world wanted a brilliant mind like Giulio.
The best center in the world was in Los Angeles where Professor Takesaki Masamichi, clearly of Japanese origin, had created his own theory and school of thought. For many, the Theory of Operator Algebras would be a nightmare, but for Giulio it was a delight and he was so good that at one point he taught at five universities at the same time.
So the young Giulio follows his dreams and finds himself at UCLA University in Los Angeles, California.
From Viterbo to Los Angeles is like going from medieval paintings to the special effects of cinema.
It is not only the aesthetics of cities, it is precisely the way of thinking that is totally different.
Viterbo is perhaps one of the most beautiful Italian medieval cities with its history that sinks into the mysteries of the Etruscan people passing through the birth of the Conclave and the Machine of Santa Rosa which is a festival included in the UNESCO intangible world heritage list.

It certainly cannot be said that Viterbo can offer work to mathematicians eager to test Takesaki's theories, but the quality of life is among the best in the world.
Los Angeles is a crossroads of the world, a melting pot of cultures where anything is possible and where mathematics is part of the local culture. Mathematics is in fact the basis of technology, information technology, special effects, the economy…
And it is in this melting pot that Giulio falls in love with Yuki, a student of his at the time, a girl of Japanese origin who grew up between Vancouver, Guam and finally California. Love at first sight and a marriage that leads to the birth of Giulia Yuri Della Rocca.
Three continents and three very different cultures (Italian, American and Japanese) which are a wealth for a girl. So they decide to live 2 years in Japan and 2 years in Tuscia so as not to waste this heritage.
Giulia lives in Viterbo between the ages of 9 and 11 and she experiences a freedom that only small Italian towns can give. The sociability of Italian villages, the way of living in historic centers where people still enjoy and live in the open air meeting new people every day is a unique experience. Perhaps it is precisely the essence of the Italian Lifestyle.
But the two years in Tuscia bring nostalgia back to Giulio's heart and he falls in love with peperino. As happens to many Italians who leave their country, it is thanks to the eyes of Yuki and Yuri that he rediscovers his roots. As Marcel Proust said, 'The real journey of discovery consists not in seeking new lands, but in having new eyes'.
“When you are young you want to discover the world, growing up you want to discover yourself and your roots are part of this discovery” Giulio tells us.
And the new eyes are those of his wife and his daughter.
This sentence brought us back to Al Bano's story when he told us that only thanks to Romina Power did he rediscover Cellino San Marco and fall in love with his Apulian roots.
Today Giulio is so immersed in his Viterbo he has become a promoter of Tuscia very active on social media. With his 3-minute video-interviews on Facebook, sometimes in Italian and others in English, he reaches a very large audience that has come to know this magical land between Tuscany and the Roman countryside.
He is a founding member of Tuscia in Fiore (a very popular fb page, up to 168,000 interactions a week) which exalts his beloved peperino and flowers, and is the first festival in Tuscia.
And that's how we met. In a certain sense, I am a stalker of all those who have the double Italian and American culture. It is special people like Giulio who can make the difference for our territories and for this we have created the Town Ambassador program (www.townambassador.org). The best internationalization of our micro-enterprises is precisely the people who love their roots and enthusiastically promote them.
It is love that makes the difference and if you follow Giulio you can immediately understand that he loves Tuscia, his family and life.
