30 Sept. An unforgettable day with Town Ambassadors

When the team works together you achieve great results Last Friday at the castle of Gaeta we organized an event for town ambassadors as part of the European Researchers' Night, thanks to our collaboration with UNICAS. It was one of the first post-Covid events and represented the evolution of the times, with guests connected on zoom from Toronto - Canada and Los Angeles - USA  who interacted in real time with us. This first comment in the speech of the rector Giovanni Betta  who greeted all on behalf of Unicas was that the pandemic is redesigning all the social models of the past and technology has penetrated our daily lives even in the organization of workshops. This thought was also shared by the newly elected Marco dell'Isola who honoured us with his presence. A pleasant reunion after so many years when we both worked in the energy field. The first surprise, therefore, was that the workshop was held in English for international guests and for the audience composed mainly of foreign students. The University of Cassino today has almost 20% of students from other parts of the world and is configured as a true international university. Diego Colledara guided us with words that touched hearts to discover the role that Town Ambassadors can play in the development of smaller territories. The Town Ambassadors present such as Cesidio di Ciacca  from Scotland,  Tony Malizia  from Canada and Michael Cavalieri from Los Angeles had words of love for their countries of origin but also a pragmatic attitude on how to stay in touch. The words of Cesidio, who was present in the hall, have repeatedly made the students applaud, and who perhaps in a different way found themselves with the feelings that you experience when you are away from home. And I think they were also interested in how to capitalize on their experience by creating cultural and economic bridges between Italy and their native country. At least this is what we felt from the questions they asked us after the event. The last presentation was by Salvo Bendici of ANFE, Association of Emigrant Families, who announced the beginning of a collaboration with Discoverplaces. The association has changed its face following the change of Italian emigration in the world (which has never stopped) and increasingly stands with a proactive role of services to italian descendants of the 3rd, 4th and 5th generation. Finally we just have to mention a big surprise because we will build a special event on this news. With Enzo Salera, the mayor of Cassino, we signed a new Living Town Ambassador for his city connected with Los Angeles. But we do not want to say too much now to allow space for a unique event dedicated to Cassino and its ‘children’ abroad who still hold it in their hearts.  We can only announce that this Ambassador is one of the greatest Italian-American entrepreneurs in the entertainment world. A special thanks to Roberta Vinciguerra  for her incredible work as organizer and to the discoverplaces team, Roberta, Emanuela, Benedicta, Alessia and Davide. What an unforgettable day!
