Two walks and a Conference are planned in which the Regional Councilor for Tourism of the Lazio Region is taking part. Lorenza Bonaccorsi and the President of the European Association of the Via Francigena, Massimo Tedeschi, are the deputies for the certification of the route.

The first walk starts at 8:00 am on Saturday, March 16th from the square in front of the Baronial Palace of Maenza. The pilgrimage is organized in honour the celebrations of St. Thomas Aquinas and it runs along the 15 km of roads and paths that connect the village of Lepino to the Abbey of Fossanova.

The second walk starts from the Cathedral of Priverno and will cross the Via Francigena in the South to the Abbey of Fossanova. Near the Amaseno river the two pilgrimages will unite and walk together for the remaining 6 km until the arrival at the Abbey. Students from the schools of Terracina and Priverno, the scouts of Latina, will be present. Associations will also participate with costumed people who will re-enact the culture and arts and crafts of the time.

At 1.00 pm will be the reception in the Abbey by the Monastic Community and the Euphonia Choir.

The climax of the festival will be at 15.00 when the conference will begin with the title "The Francigena Way South, European Cultural Path". It will have the task of describing the route and the process involving the Municipalities, the local and regional Institutional Authorities and evidencing the importance of the cultural, spiritual, economic and tourist repercussions on the territories. The conference will be attended by numerous associations, mayors and institutional representatives, who have joined the event.

The conference will be chaired by the Councilor for Tourism of the Lazio Region, Lorenza Bonaccorsi. "The conference wants to underline the work done by the associations and the municipalities together with the Lazio Region for the certification of the route of the Francigena south of Rome", Giancarlo Forte, president of the association group of Dodici tells us.

The Via Francigena South combines the West and the East routes, passing through some of the most beautiful villages in Italy. It is the only European Way that runs from and to Rome.

"It is an important meeting to discover the villages and territories of the Via Francigena in the South of Lazio", continues Giancarlo Forte, "little known but with an inestimable splendour".

The event is organized under the patronage of the Lazio Region, the European Association of the Vie Francigene, Compagnia dei Lepini and the Municipalities of Maenza and Priverno.

For an entry fee of 10 euros will be possible to participate at the pilgrim's lunch, organized and catered by Campagna Amica of Coldiretti di Latina. The convivial meeting will be accompanied by the popular songs of the Women's Choir of Giulianello (Cori).
