Winemakers' Saturday in Lazio
Winemakers' Saturday in Lazio

The Winemaker's Saturday showcases the vibrancy (and professionalism) of viticulture in Lazio

Proudly FIVI member, proudly part of the family of Lazio producers.

This could be the summary of the Winemaker's Saturday in the Appian Way Park at the Riserva della Cascina winery, where we tasted our wines alongside approximately 50 other producers.

Viticulture in Lazio is a young age, and our young Maria dragged us into this adventure, despite ourselves!

Until a few years ago, all Lazio wines were transformed at Easter and sold as bulk wine for Roman tourists. At most, in our area, they were bottled to make 'romanella', a sparkling and fairly sweet wine.

How nostalgic for a good romanella! As if we were ashamed of the past today.

My grandfather, who was Venetian and had his wines shipped from Collio, made his own white wine, buying grapes in Velletri and then buying the 'romanelle' in San Quirico (Serrone) to drink with friends on Sundays while playing bocce.

Lacking a long-standing tradition, the history of wines aged and bottled in Lazio is recent, and most producers are young. Often, they are young people who have studied, traveled the world, and then chose viticulture consciously, not as a second-best option.

And I use the word viticulture to emphasize the cultural approach to the world of vineyard cultivation and winemaking.

It's no coincidence that Lazio is the region with the highest percentage of organic viticulture. And we at Donna Vittori are part of this group and are now moving toward biodynamics.

This event is organized annually by FIVI – the Italian Federation of Independent Winemakers, people who oversee the entire production process, from the vineyard to the cellar, bottling, and the storytelling during tastings with customers.

In Lazio, we have our regional delegate, Antonio Cosmi, to thank for the passion he instills in us. A passion we're able to pass on to so many new, young enthusiasts.

See you from November 21st to 23rd in Bologna for the market show featuring all FIVI producers.
