Castel Sant'Angelo. Cotilia Bath

On the lake in Castel Sant'Angelo there are the remains of large structures that could belong to the ancient Cotilia or if they are the baths of a large rustic villa belonging to the Flavians, in particular of Tito, the son of Vespasiano.

However, this was the area of the Vicus Cutiliae and the two Emperors had created in this area a real spa resort, having first appreciated the abundance and quality of the (sulphurous) waters that now feed the Terme di Cotilia.

Between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries the therapeutic properties of the waters were scientifically ascertained and subsequently the thermal facilities still in operation today were activated.

The waters flow from two springs (Vecchi and Nuovi Bagni) with such abundance that they form two small lakes. The waters are suitable for respiratory, circulatory, skin, musculoskeletal, gynecological and ENT diseases.
