The church of Saint Liberata is dedicated to the patron saint of Ciciliano and was built on a nearby hill facing the historic center and the castle of Ciciliano. From this point you have an excellent view of the valleys below and perhaps for this reason the place was called 'vigilianum'.
The church is made up of two rooms, the first dating back to the 12th century with a barrel vaulted roof and the second added with a 17th century extension to connect it to the nearby convent.
The oldest nucleus was admirably frescoed by the Colonna family in the 16th century, entrusting the task to some masters of the Antoniazzo Romano workshop. The images of the Madonna enthroned and of Jesus who blesses stand out and Saint Liberata stands out among the saints.
The convent and the church are governed by the Maronite Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary which is based in Lebanon. Ciciliano had been chosen in 1884 by Abbot Gabriele Kordahi, to be a holiday resort for the friars.
The convent is functional and has more than 40 rooms and some cedars of Lebanon, symbol of the country, brought by the friars in the 1930s have been planted in the garden.
