Ardea was famous since ancient times for its 'acqua acetose', i.e. acidic water, especially beneficial, rich in bicarbonate, calcium and magnesium, coming from the the volcanic apertures of the Alban Hills (Colli Albani).
Mythology confirms the link between Ardea and Water. The sister of the King of Ardea was Juturna, nymph of water sources, to whom Jupiter had given the gift of immortality and "dominion" over the waterways.
