Vetralla. Wood of the Valleys

The wood of the Valleys lies on a plateau in Vetralla and during the rainy season has numerous small lakes, called 'Trosce' in the local dialect.

The forest is made up of Turkey oaks, once used on the railroad tracks, Rovere oak, hornbeam, flowering ash and hazel.

In the woods there are many traces of the past such as the remains of Roman villas and the ruins of cisterns.

An Etruscan-Roman sanctuary was found that was dedicated to the goddess Demeter, dating back from the late fourth century BC to the beginning of II century AD.
