Barnekow's House ,Originally known as Casa Gigli now Casa Barnekow, its name derives from the baron, official of the hussars and Swedish painter Albert von Barnekow who had fallen in love with an Anagni model. The artist bought it and restructured it in the second half of the nineteenth century.
It seems that the model preferred to marry another and that the Swedish painter has fallen into depression so much so as to paint the girl on the front of the house as on a funeral inscription. But the message of all the frescoes and writings has not yet been understood.
It is one of the best examples of medieval houses with an external staircase leading to the first floor. The facade is set back from the road and in the foreground there are two large round arches with a column in the middle with a capital decorated with acanthus leaves.
The façade has an elegant mullioned window and is adorned with paintings and tombstones with esoteric writings in various languages. A beautiful sculpture of a horse by Tommaso Gismondi reveals how for a certain period the artist had used this as an art gallery.
It is said that in the Middle Ages this house belonged to the Gigli family and that Dante Alighieri stayed there during his period in the city, as is reported on a plaque.
