Castle of Roccaguglielma
Castle of Roccaguglielma

Esperia. Castle of Roccaguglielma

The medieval castle of Roccaguglielma was built around 1103 in Esperia.

Probably on existing structures, by the Norman Cavaliere William of Glossavilla (Bloseville), which protected the population with a fortress surrounded by walls.

Roccaguglielma with con Pico, San Giovanni Incarico, Campello and Rivomatrice formed a sort of independent state, called the "Five Castles de Foris"

The name is due to the fact that they were excluded from the possessions of the Abbey of Montecassino.

The castle is now reduced to ruins and is accessible from the town center.
