Sacrofano. Fortress

The original fortress of Sacrofano had a trapezoidal shape, with an inner courtyard with a tower and a moat facing towards the mountain, where there was the equally fortified town.

At the end of the fourteenth century, a tower near the church of St. John became the residence of the Orsini family and inside there is a relief depicting the coat of arms of the family.

In the first half of the fifteenth century the defensive structures of Sacrofano were re-arranged: two round towers were built to defend the Porta Romana - Roman Gate.
