Montefiascone. Marco Antonio Barbarigo Seminary

For some centuries the bishop's seminary was the heart of life of Montefiascone that made the town known throughout the papal state.

The first centre dates back to 1666 but its transformation and its development was due to Cardinal Marco Antonio Barbarigo.

At that time there were still echoes from the Protestant reform and the Concilio di Trento so that the church was engaged in its internal reform.

The cardinal united several palaces to create classrooms, rooms, lodgings for professors, a library and a printer right in the centre of the town, in the upper part near Porta Romana. Here he also built the church of San Bartolomeo. The new seminary opened in 1690.
