The baronial palace of Monterotondo arose from the transformation of the previous fortress by the Orsini family.
Through the portal that adorns the entrance it leads to a courtyard where there is the vessel of the cistern with the papal coat of arms of the Medici and Orsini.
From the large courtyard surrounded by octagonal columns is access by a staircase to the first floor decorated with frescoes.
The frescoes by Girolamo Siciolante from Sermoneta represent episodes of the myth of Adonis and Raphaelesque deities. In the third room, among works by the Flemish Paul Brill, is a view of Monterotondo and other landscapes and hunting scenes.
While in the last room, on the "barrel" ceiling are appreciable decorations on the themes of love and time.
In 1867 it housed Giuseppe Garibaldi and his staff.
The tower, which dominates the Tiber Valley, is not the original and was rebuilt after the 1915 earthquake in Avezzano. Today, the palace is home to the city hall and houses the archaeological museum.
