Celleno. Orsini Castle

From the city hall square od Celleno the path goes up to the castle beyond a single-arched stone bridge.

At the end of the bridge it crosses a beautiful portal and enters the castle where not all areas are open to visitors due to several landslides and subsidence.

The original castle, the large square tower, appears not to have been affected by several disastrous earthquakes in recent centuries and it is the residential section that has had problems. The collapse of many tunnels and walkways prevents an understanding of the architecture of the complex.

After the earthquake, the castle was confiscated by the municipality for use as town hall, clinic and school until the construction of the buildings in the new town.

Part of the castle has been recently restored by the painter Enrico Castellani.

In a retaining wall in front of the lower square of the castle you can see two white stones that during the Second World War held up a marble plaque with the sanctions that were applied to Italy from invaders.
