Riofreddo. Donizetti square, Blasi-Roberti palace and oratory of St. Andrew

The living room of Riofreddo is certainly Donizetti square which takes its name from the famous composer who stayed for a certain period in this village. The musician had in fact married Virginia Vasselli and according to local stories he composed Lucia di Lammermoor initially rehearsing it with the town band.

De Sanctis palace, the municipal oven and Blasi-Roberti palace with the adjoining chapel which today has become the oratory of Saint Andrew overlook this square, once called piazza del furnace. All these buildings have a late Baroque style and their construction dates back to the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
