One of the works to regenerate the village of Sambuci wanted by Cardinal Camillo Astalli is the arrival of drinking water in the village in a fountain called La Fonte, a monumental fountain located right in the center of the village.
The tripartite shape of this 17th century fountain, with an elegant central body and two lateral basins, underlines its dual function. Furnishing element and source of supply with torches for drinking. In ancient times, a part was also intended for drinking troughs for animals.
The iron bars below the spouts were used to rest the typical copper 'conches' that women used to carry water to their homes.
The drinking water of the spring is that of the spring known as “delle Vigne” and the whole town depended on these waters.
