Zagarolo. San Martino Gate

Zagarolo. San Martino Gate

The San Martino Gate was built by the Colonna in honour of Pope Martin V in Zagarolo.

It is the entrance to the city from the north.

It has an arch framed by two columns and surmounted by the Rospigliosi family crest.

Crenellated walls approach the arch to protect the old city.

The inside is decorated with curious military emblems that seem to dance.
