Rocca di Cave. The fortress

The fortress of Rocca di Cave was founded in the ninth century as a defence system against invasions by the Saracens.

From the terrace you have an incredible view: from the Apennines to the Colli Albani, the the Roman countryside to the Pontine Plain.

The fortress has an irregular hexagonal plan with four corner towers and in the centre there is a large cylindrical tower, which was the original tower, and the remains of the church of St. Peter.

Today it is a massive body of the building with two corner towers and part of the cylindrical tower.
