Palestrina. Palio of Saint Agapito

The patronal festival of Palestrina in honour of Saint Agapito (August 18) ends with the city palio (called Lo palio de sand'Agàbbido in the local dialect).

The four districts that take their name from the ancient city gates compete in different tests.

The most important test is the giostra della scifa - carousel of the scifa, a horse race in which the riders attempt to capture a small metal ring with a lance.

On the evening of 17th a solemn procession is held with the relics of the martyr.
