Genzano di Roma. Casareccio Bread Festival

Genzano di Roma. Casareccio Bread Festival

The Genzano di Roma bread festival is a weekend dedicated to one of the best known typical products of the Roman castles.

It was the first Italian bread to be PGI - Protected Geographical Indication by the European Community in 1997.

The festival was born in 1989 precisely to promote and make known the tradition of Genzano bread that has contributed to making it so tasty and famous.

In September there is the festival of homemade bread (Casareccio) in which the longest bruschetta in the world is prepared: 3,500 IGP homemade bread slices, seasoned with more than 60 liters of extra virgin olive oil, 5,000 tomatoes and 20 kg of chicory, set up on a table 250 meters long.

During the festival ” Flower Festival of bread" is held, in which paintings are made from pieces of different types of bread that give shades of colour.
