San Martino al Cimino. Festival of Chestnuts and Porcini Mushroom

San Martino al Cimino. Festival of Chestnuts and Porcini Mushroom

At the end of October, for two weekends San Martino al Cimino in Viterbo is tinged brown with the colors of chestnuts and porcini mushrooms, the fruits of the woods around the famous village near Viterbo.

For the occasion the whole village comes alive first for the collection and then for the festivities.

One of the characteristics of this festival is that you can taste only ‘brown’, the females of chestnuts, which are lighter, have a more oval shape but above all they are much sweeter and tastier.

The ‘marroni’ of San Martino al Cimino are among the best.

During the weekends it is possible to take guided tours of the Palazzo Donna Olimpia Pamphili and the Museo dell’Abate while the children are given a space to stimulate their curiosity and to learn while having fun.

Among the typical dishes of the area you should not miss the famous Porcini Mushroom Soup. You can taste the delights of San Martino in the stands in the village or in the restaurants and typical restaurants that have prepared a special menu for the occasion.
