Longone Sabino. Feast of Vertuti

The feast of Vertuti in Longone Sabino is a celebration of early spring that comes from an ancient pagan custom celebrating the strength, courage and vigour (in Latin Virtus, from which Vertuti).

These forces, principle to life and fertility, are enclosed in the heart of the seeds.

This festival also indicated sharing and solidarity. Every family paid by placing several seeds, legumes and graeens in a common copper cauldron boiling on the square in front of the church.

The Vertuti, after cooking and after the blessing of the parish priest, were distributed to the community.
