Nerola. Festival of Broad beans and Pecorino cheese

The festival of beans and pecorino in Nerola celebrates one of the favorite combinations of the Romans.

Broad beans and pecorino cheese are one of the traditional dishes of the Roman countryside that is enjoyed in May, when the beans are picked fresh from the fields. The accompaniment with just ripened sheep cheese is an absolute delight.

This legume in the past was a classic 'poor' food because it guaranteed excellent nutritional properties at a budget price.

The raw beans are rich in iron, minerals, a significant amount of vitamins and protein.
